The i-swing: Love Child of iPod + Segway?

If an iPod and Segway had sex, this is what their baby would look like. The i-swing, a "personal mobility" device from Toyota, borrows the design sensibilities and functionality from the Apple iPod, Segway and even Nintendo DS, boasting the following features:

1. Like the Segway, the i-swing features gyro-sensor control to keep the vehicle balanced upright when in two-wheel mode.

2. When necessary, the i-swing can shift to three-wheel mode, as a wheel stored between the two back wheels can move forward and center.

3. The i-swing features two handheld drive controls allowing the driver to steer in all directions and control speed and other basic functions.

4. Pulling information from its stored memory and the Internet, the i-swing can shift personal settings based on individual driver preferences. A display screen with animated characters pops up from the side of the i-swing to interact with the driver and share personal messages.

5.
The i-swing's triangular rear panel is a full-color LED screen that the driver can personalize with favorite video, still photos, or splashes of color to match his/her current mood.

6.
To further personalize the i-swing, the owner can swap out the vehicle's fabric colors to match changing tastes.

7.
In addition to joystick steering, the i-swing can be controlled by the driver shifting weight forward and back, and from side to side, creating sensations similar to skiing.

8.
The i-swing designers envision it being ultimately equipped with artificial intelligence to learn the mobility habits and preferences of different drivers and anticipate desired settings and actions.

9.
Specs: the i-swing can reach speeds of up to 12 mph (20 km/h), has a wheelbase of 24 inches (600 mm) and weighs 330 pounds (150 kg).

10.
The i-swing is just one of seven personal mobility concept vehicles Toyota has recently unveiled to shake up how we think about getting from point A to point B. Other concepts include the FSC (flexible saloon concept) and the bB (music-playing boombox in the shape of a car).
