Apple iPod Touch in Stores NOW!
Forget September 28. Seeing reports that iPod touches were hitting my local Apple Store (Somerset Mall in Troy, MI) I called as soon as the store opened this morning and was told the shipment was unexpected and they sold it out immediately. The manager told me to try back after noon, which I did, and was told they got a second shipment and I should get there ASAP, as they won't hold them for call-in customers.
So I high-tailed it to the store and arrived to see the store packed with upwards of 100 people. My heart sank, immediately assuming they were all tipped off that the touch had arrived and the store must be sold out already.
 I got right into line and asked a green-shirt walking by if they still had any left. She said yes, and there should still be some by the time I got to the front of the line. I looked around me and realized that most people there were not buying the touch after all, but were asking about or purchasing a wide variety of Apple products, with plenty of computer buyers. I hit me that it's a great testament to the iPod as a gateway to Apple's computers. I had never seen the store so crowded, especially for a Friday afternoon.
I picked up two 16 GB iPod touches (sorry, neighbors, but my dad made me promise to buy for him as well), and got home as quickly as I could to unbox mine and take these shots. It's charging up now and I can't wait to try it out. I'll be back with a full review, probably tomorrow.
