First off, the KDL-46W4100 offers 1080p, full HD resolution. If you consult virtually any videophile out there, you'll hear that 1080p is almost overkill on any set smaller than, say, 50"... so you may want to visit a store to determine if you can see enough of a difference between 1080p vs. 720p to warrant the extra spend.

Next, what features are must-haves for you and what are extraneous bells and whistles not worth the extra money? The KDL-46W4100 has to be considered one of the lower-end 46-inch models in Sony's line-up, so going this route will mean forgoing some of the higher-end technologies.

With the KDL-46W4100 you'll get MotionFlow 120Hz video processing for a smoother picture, full 24p frame rate for accurate display of film sources, and a 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, all of which should be considered must-haves in the LCD market today.

But upgrading to the Z-Series would mean you get a 10-bit display, Deep Color color-spec compliance, and DLNA compatible, which allows you to connect to other devices to create a virtual network. The 10-bit display would be the toughest thing for us to give up, but that's our opinion. You should see the sets in action for yourself and make the call.
